Segment Integration

Segment collects events from your web & mobile apps and provides a complete data toolkit to every team in your company.

Updated over a week ago

With Segment, you can collect, transform, send, and archive your first-party customer data. Segment simplifies the process of collecting data and connecting new tools, allowing you to spend more time using your data, and less time trying to collect it.

How to set up

Adding your Segment Source ID to Shogun

Before making use of the built-in integration with Segment, it's important to ensure that your Source ID is placed inside of your Shogun settings. To do this, you must first create a source in Segment and then grab your Source ID. To do this, on the left side of your Segment Dashboard click the “Connections” link. Then under the helper toolbox or under sources click “Add Source”:

On this page, select “JavaScript” and click next in the bottom right:

Now that you’re here, fill in your “Website Name”, “Website URL”, and then click “Create Source”:

Now that you generated the script, you just want to copy over the Source ID which is within the quotes as seen here:

Once you have that token, navigate to your Shogun dashboard, into Settings and scroll down to the Integrations section. Click “Enable” on the Segment Integration, insert your Source ID (Write Token), and then click Save.

It’s important to note that you’ll have to republish any page that you want Segment to work on, now that you’ve added the Token ID.

How it integrates with the page

Once the Source ID is added to your settings and the Shogun page is republished, the Segment script will automatically be added to the live page. Now that the script is in place, everything is controlled through the Segment dashboard and nothing else needs to be added/changed on the Shogun end.

We would recommend using the segment documentation found here: https://segment.com/docs/ to really understand everything that can be done once the connection is made.
